Yuri was born in Osaka and now lives in England with her husband and two children. She studied fashion design at university before embarking on a career in clothes design. After moving to the UK she followed up her dream, creating sugarcraft cakes and has won many awards at international competitions. She discovered many new techniques through working with polymer clay, continuing her passion for creating sculptured art with her hands. Recently she has developed a deepening interest in herbs and homeopathy.
She began teaching breadmaking and cake design several years ago from her home in Oxford. More recently, she decided to become a qualified Japanese sweet (wagashi) teacher, enthralled by the way the beauty of each season is highlighted to the extent of becoming an art form. She loves applying the skills and techniques learnt from other crafts to create original designs, highlighting both Japanese and English seasonal wonders. She hopes to help others learn more about Japanese culture through this beautiful art form.
